I – Independent: All families of ICARE are wonderfully independent, no two being the same. Our families are independent in ideas, personalities, and lifestyles that are in turn reflected in their chosen way of homeschooling. They are independent in what is considered valuable for learning and in the goals and expectations of their children. Each family seeks to accommodate the individual needs and talents of each child. The families are self-governing, self-reliant, and self-determined–free from the influence or control of others. As independent as homeschool families can be, there is but one thing that ICARE families are completely dependent on the belief of God the Father, His Son Jesus, and the Holy Spirit, which brings us to the second letter.
C – Christian: ICARE was founded on faith in Jesus Christ. It is from this faith that our group is constantly mindful in all of our relationships within our group and in all related meetings and activities. It is because of the faithful people over the years that ICARE still exists; it has been covered in prayer year after year. If a conflict arises, our desire is that it be resolved based on Biblical principles. We trust our Heavenly Father to use His timing and the talents given to His children to raise up members to lead, to participate, and to make our group the active ministry that it is. The unique success of our group can be credited to this trust.
A – Association: This is an organization that is united in its interest and purpose of educating our children at home. Our families are in partnership in this endeavor. Surrounding themselves with fellow homeschoolers through activities of our association provides encouragement in all areas of the homeschooling process.
R – Responsible: The Bible provides direct references as to parental responsibility toward children. Academics are only part of the complete education for which parents are responsible. It is the ultimate responsibility of parents to provide for their children in such a way that they rise above the standard academically, emotionally, and spiritually. Only Godly character training can accomplish this. Parents will be held accountable to God in the responsibility given them.
E – Educators: Along with the gift of being a parent comes many titles–one of being an educator. Parents are obviously educating their children from the day they come into this world. Children learn from what is specifically presented to them, from their experiences, and from their environment. Through God, parents are given the ability to properly educate their own children in all areas of life. When trials or times of weakness or weariness come, that is when we need to give it back to God and let Him lead us as educators.
